If a more personal approach to healthcare suits you better than bustling big-city facilities, Texas still has what you’re looking for. Explore rural Texas for some good ol’ Southern hospitality. In fact, the word “Texas” is derived from the native Caddoan word for “friend.”
Eastern Texas is the most heavily populated region in the state. In fact, half of Texas’ population resides in the Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan areas. Eastern Texas is home to the Texas Medical Center, visited by over five million patients annually and composed of over forty medicine-related facilities, over a dozen hospitals and medical schools. This is a perfect facility for travel nursing jobs!
When you’re off the clock in this part of the state, there are plenty of big-city things to do. For the thrill-seeker’s day off, a visit to one of Texas’ Six Flags theme parks is a must. Theme parks located in both Arlington and San Antonio offer rides for thrill-seekers both mild and extreme. Six Flags Fiesta Texas in San Antonio is home to the largest and only floorless roller coaster in the Southwest, the Superman Kryptonite Coaster. Six Flags Over Texas, located in Arlington, is home to the Texas Giant, consistently rated the best wooden roller coaster in the world and dubbed “America’s Coaster.”
Roller coasters aren’t the only entertainment in eastern Texas. One of three SeaWorld locations nationwide is located in San Antonio. Visit the park for spectacular shows starring the celebrity whale Shamu, and cool off in the Lost Lagoon water park. For a truly remarkable experience, visit SeaWorld’s Dolphin Cove to touch and feed bottlenose dolphins! See the real-life Anheuser-Busch Clydesdales and the classic Budweiser wagon. Various other attractions to suit interests of all kinds can be found throughout the park.
If you’re in search of a more secluded way to spend your days in Texas, shift your gaze to Texas’ western side. For relaxation and beautiful scenery in the Lone Star State, visit one of Texas’ many dude ranches. Rest in a bed and breakfast environment and experience a horseback ride through the Great Plains in true cowboy style. Hiking, camping, hayrides and even overnight trail rides are offered by many ranches.
Camping and other outdoor activities take place in Texas’ many state parks. In western Texas, go canoeing or mountain biking in Big Bend Ranch State Park. Miles of biking and horseback trails trickle through this desert wilderness. Plentiful in rare desert wildlife and astonishing views, this state park includes mountains, extinct volcanoes, canyons, rivers and waterfalls sure to amaze you.
Statewide, Texas’ economy is excellent, due in large part to the availability of jobs. Cost of housing is another important factor in the economy, as the value of homes in Texas has not increased as rapidly as other areas of the country. In 2006, Texas had more Fortune 500 company headquarters than any other state.
